Barbie vs. Oppenheimer

You may be wondering what Barbie and Oppenheimer have to do with politics. The answer is nothing, or at least it should be.

Barbie and Oppenheimer were the two most grossing movies this summer, fueled by the insane media hype behind them. Due to the heavy push for these movies all over social media, moviegoers have had an even longer time than usual to debate the intricacies of each movie.

The results: Barbie was a display of feminism while Oppenheimer focused mainly on the scientist’s personal life and was a misrepresentation of World War 2 and Los Alamos at large.

In the case of Barbie, the movie was polarizing. Reviews either loved it or hated, no in between. It seems clear to me that the reaction to these two movies act as a microcosm of society and politics. The divide between left and right permeating into other aspects of our culture.

The political divide in the United States is as distinct as it’s ever been before. Unfortunately, this divide is reflected in everyday life of normal civilians. Barbie and Oppenheimer could both be enjoyed as movies if people were in the right state of mind when watching them. Wouldn’t that be amazing!

As of now, in 2023, the divide is only growing and will continue to impact society negatively.
